Eliyahu Respes, the seventh son born to Rabbi Abel and Viola Respes of blessed memory departed this life on August 3, 2014 after a long struggle with health issues.
Bahu, as he was affectionately called since childhood attended Mullica Township Elementary School only to the first grade due to Down's Syndrome. He did however complete his academic education and graduated from Atlantic County Special Services School located in Corbin City, NJ.
Although disabled he attended Hebrew classes which allowed him to make the blessing over the Torah at his Bar Mitzah. Eli was a member of the Adat Beyt Mosheh Synagogue in Elwood, NJ and regularly joined in Shabbat services.
There was a time that Eli was part of the “team” of disabled adults at the Career, Development and Opportunity workshop where he was involved in the assembly of boxes.
He was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.
Eli was an avid wrestling fan, a lover of Horror movies and The Three Stooges. He loved to joke with his family and remembered every birth date of his loved ones. Eli was a great dancer, loved to draw and take peaceful walks around his community and talk to his imaginary friends.
Eliyahu leaves to mourn five brothers, Joel, Elkanah, Gamaliel, Manuel and Benjamin; ten sisters, Alender, Gabrielle, Judith, Leah, Zayith, Keturah, Michal, Miriam, Hadassah and Gilah, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives.
