Recently, my girlfriend of about a year started a new job, which is great, except that it makes her my boss. Things have become really awkward between us, and I don't know how to talk to her about it. What should I do?

Dear Boss,

Talk to her the way you would talk about anything in your relationship. Make sure you're not on the defensive leading into the conversation and don't start with, "We need to talk," since that never puts anyone at ease. Instead, try asking about her day, or asking about the new job...

Dear Miriam,

I'm planning my outfit for an interview. Some of my shirts have, let's say, faint stains, but they'd be covered up by a jacket during the interview. Even without the jacket, they're faint. But, even if nobody else knows, I know they're there. Should I spend money on new shirts? It really feels psychological -- and a waste of money. If I could just get over the idea that my white shirts aren't perfectly white... What do you think -- any words of advice for me to get over it?

Dear Readers,

As a busy working mom involved in lots of community projects and still trying to have a social life and sleep occasionally, I'm struggling to prioritize my time and get to everything. I was trying to imagine what kind of advice someone would give me, or alternatively, what kind of advice I would give someone like me. So as I work to answer my own question, hopefully it will be helpful to you, too!

The plain fact is that it's impossible to get everything done. I probably never could do everything, but now, with a baby and the ugly face of sleep...
