Margate JCC

Joshua Hersz, Exponent Marketing Director

With a spectacular building that includes a state-of-the-art fitness center, two basketball courts, indoor and outdoor pools, early education classrooms, a teen lounge and an auditorium featuring a continuous stream of cultural events, it's well worth paying a visit to the Milton & Betty Katz Jewish Community Center during your next trip to the Jersey shore.

The JCC  'down the shore' dates back to 1911 when it first opened in Atlantic City as the YMHA. In 1927, the organization took its current name of the Jewish Community Center of Atlantic County. By 1959, a major population shift within the Jewish community saw the JCC move out of AC and into Margate. After four decades in operation, the JCC closed for two years to undergo a massive renovation, re-opening in its current form in late 2003.

While the JCC serves the many generations of its members with continuous, vibrant programming all year long, it is the summer months when the institution truly stands out as a major Jewish organization for the entire region. As folks who live in Greater Philadelphia flock to the shore from Memorial Day to Labor Day, the JCC offers summer family memberships in addition to a well-established camp program. More than 500 children ranging from 6 weeks to 18 years old participate in "Camp by the Sea" every year.

But there's no need to wait for summertime to check out the Katz JCC. Find out more about current programs and services on the JCC's website, Facebook page and CBTS Facebook page.
