What is Jewish Mindfulness Meditation?
Jewish Mindfulness Meditation is a transformative practice that lets us look at our lives through a lens of non-judgment, loving-kindness, compassion, and love. It is accepting change from moment to moment and letting go of control. It ultimately leads to wisdom, equanimity, and freedom. Rabbi Alan Lew, z”l, said that meditation always moves us from one place to another: from unconsciousness to awareness, from tension to relaxation, from being scattered to being centered, from a shallow relationship with our environment and ourselves to a deeper one, from sleep to wakefulness, from a sense of God’s presence to the sense that God was in this place and I didn’t know.” In Jewish Mindfulness Meditation, Judaism is the yesod, the foundation, and mindfulness meditation is the derech, the path. We open ourselves to study the weekly Parashah, Jewish Festivals and Holy Days, and Middot (ethics, morality, attributes).
No prior experience is necessary. No RSVP is necessary. Wear comfortable clothes. Just come with an open heart and mind to experience an ancient practice and bond together as a Jewish community. *If it your desire, continue your celebration of Shabbat by joining the rest of the congregation in the Saturday morning service.
